Arcam FMJ BDP100 Blu-ray Player. Arcam have produced one of the finest Blu-ray players to date and the FMJ BDP-100 was definitely worth the wait. As one of the few dealers around to have such a wide and varied range of high definition home cinema projectors, Arcam came to us with their FMJ BDP100 for a little first-hand testing and boy was it good, even in its pre-production stage!

With all the hype surrounding this bluray player, our high expectations were surpassed when we first put the Arcam FMJ BDP100 Blu-ray player to work. Its Blu-ray performance is exceptional, but it's the way the BDP100 reproduced standard definition DVD movies, it really cleaned- up any image, very impressive indeed. We tried it on a number of projectors, including the JVC DLA-X30 and Themescene HD83, and ran it through the superb Arcam AVR400 AV Receiver. Even with such high-end kit, the BDP100 was still able to show improvements in SD DVD playback.

Upscaling standard definition movies, for example Close Encounteres of the Third Kind can look very poor on on entry-level blu ray players but the movie took on a new life when played through the Arcam BDP100. To the untrained eye, you could even think that you were watching a Blu-ray film!

Using mask-of-silence and vibration-reducing technology found in Arcam's other high-end FMJ gear, the BDP100 picks out every last detail in the disc. Image and sound quality is second to none. Add the stylish and classy design into the mix and you have a Blu-ray player worthy of challenging for top awards.

Of course, Arcam's FMJ BDP100 is not solely about the picture quality. Anybody who is farmiliar with Arcam will know that audio playback is one of Arcam's strong points. Movie soundtracks and CD playback are essential areas of importance to any audiophile and the Arcam FMJ BDP100 will not disappoint here. Using the same Wolfson 8741 audio DAC found in the top-of-the-range Arcam FMJ CD37 CD Player, Arcam have also introduced technology that auto-detects when music is being played from a CD and switches off all the unwanted circuitry. This allows the Arcam FMJ BDP100 to deliver a truly musical performance when playing CD's, unlike any other Blu-ray player at this level.

It's fair to say that we are more than impressed with the Arcam FMJ BDP100 Blu-ray player and when you see, hear and feel it you will know why. A long time in the making, but well worth the wait.
